Sunday, June 20, was a picture perfect morning and it was Father's Day. It also happened to be the Long Island Gold Coast Triathlon at Bar Beach. Students from Garden City High School met at 6:30 a.m. on the shore for a student-led fundraiser, to benefit Tuesday's Children.

Kellen McCooey and Jill McLaughlin, co-presidents of the Tuesday's Children Garden City High School chapter, organized this fundraiser by getting their fellow classmates to participate in the triathlon - a half-mile swim, a 12-mile bike and a 3.10-mile run. This certainly was not an easy feat by any means. With donations from sponsors the group raised $3,120 for Tuesday's Children.

Tuesday's Children is a nonprofit family service organization dedicated to assisting children who lost a parent on September 11, 2001. Programs range from children's mentoring to next step programs for surviving spouses to career paths and special events. For more information, visit www.tuesdayschildren.org

Tuesday's Children thanks the co-presidents, advisor Patricia Scarantino and the Garden City community for their generous support. Great job! Great effort!
