Now that the doors of the Garden City Exchange have closed for the last time after more than 50 years of service to the community, I would be remiss if I did not thank publicly all those volunteers who have helped to make the Exchange such a success.
First, special thanks to Arthur Jasper and Irene Craig, co-chairs. Their expertise in evaluating and assessing the value of consigned items from expensive antiques to $1 table bric-a-brac assured the consignor and the Exchange of getting a fair value for the article.
Arthur and Irene were ably assisted by Margaret Arcese, Jennie Catania, Dorothy Cook, Kathleen Davis, Gloria Denby, Jane Donovan, Jeanette Doolittle, Sally Fitzgibbons, Ruth Hummell, Lotti Hunstein, Doris Hunt, Patricia Jaeger, Renee Klatt, Gladys Lawson, Pat MacDougall, Sally Martens, Barbara Mangi, Peggy Masterson, Bea Maxfield, Lynn Merwarth, Jean Miller, Mary J. Miller, Priscilla Kimberlon, Aurelee Randazzo, Phyllis Reineke, Karen Reiter, Patricia Rice, James Ryan, Pat Ryerson, Marge Sackman, Dee Sneft, Daphne Spirakis, Frances Steurer and Millie Kimmons.
Finally, posthumous thanks are due to Emily Bowden, who served as chairperson for over 40 years, as well as to countless deceased and retired volunteers who gave so selflessly of their time.
