Benjamin Cardone, the son of The Very Reverend James Cardone, dean of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, and his wife, Mrs. Cardone and brother of Tom, passed away last month while aboard the USS Gary stationed at a Naval base in Japan.

According to military newspaper reports, Cardone, 22, died from a gunshot wound to the head. Navy officials ruled the shooting a suicide. Cardone's wake was held in the Cathedral Friday evening, May 21, and the funeral Saturday morning, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. A reception followed the service in the Cathedral House auditorium.

Contributions in Cardone's memory will go toward a Memorial Garden to be situated on the Cathedral grounds. The garden will include a labyrinth walk, which will have the cross from St. Mary's School at its center, and will be surrounded by benches for private prayer and meditation.
