The recreation department has secured tickets for the Saturday, June 19, performance of Dragon Tales, The Riddle of the Rainbow at the Nassau Coliseum. This is a live performance of the very popular animated television show. Show time will be 2 p.m. and the cost of each ticket will be $17. All tickets must be paid in cash. The recreation department will begin accepting applications for the upcoming Men's Over 35 softball league on accepting from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements: team must be comprised of Garden City residents and all players must be over 35 years of age or turning 35 during the course of the season.
The fee for this league will be $500, which includes games, balls and umpires. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package, including rosters completely filled in, a copy of each player's license and a check for the full amount of the league fee made payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City.
Applications are now available at the recreation office in village hall. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, May 6 or until 12 completed acceptable roster packages are received.
If you are a Garden City resident age 18 or older, who would like to play softball in one of the recreation department's softball leagues, call the recreation office at 465-4075 to put your name on the player's list. The department sometimes has coaches who call looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address, phone number and the department will keep your information on file for the team who is looking for extra players.
The recreation department will again conduct a summer baseball camp for boys and girls who are residents of Garden City under the direction of Walter Cook.
The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the weeks of July 19-21 and July 26-29 at Community Park. This instructional program is offered for boys and girls, aged 6-12, in two hour sessions for either one week or two weeks.
Children who register for this program must be 6 years old by the start of the session. Sessions are held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. for children 6-8 years old, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 9-12 years old. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the importance of playing together as a team.
Youngsters in each age category will be divided into appropriate skill levels and will receive group instruction. Instructor-student ratio will not exceed 1-10. Each participant receives a T-shirt as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the camp session. The cost of the program will be $60 for each week.

The recreation department will hold a pre-school camp for Garden City children aged 3.5-5 years old this summer. Pat Haas Leonenko will again run this very popular camp.

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who reside in Garden City during the weeks of Aug. 2-5 and Aug. 9-12 at Community Park (behind the pool).
This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls aged 6-12. Youngsters must be 6 years old by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September 2004 in order to register for this camp. Proof of age will be required.
The two-hour session will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual skill development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $125. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by soccer camp staff to be followed by full field games.
The program is in its 25th year of operation and is under the direction of Paul LeSueur, who has extensive professional experience as a player, coach, teacher and administrator. The camp staff is comprised of outstanding professional, collegiate and high school players. The purpose of the program is to provide a fun-filled learning experience incorporating the values of sportsmanship.
Youngsters will be placed in age-appropriate groups with the instructor/camper ratio not to exceed 1-10. Safe playing techniques and team cooperation will also be stressed. Each participant will receive a T-shirt as well as a Certificate of Completion at the end of the camp.

The recreation department's open soccer time for residents of Garden City who are high school graduates or older began Saturday, April 17 on St. Paul's Soccer Field 2C. The program is open each Saturday on Field 2C from 9 to 11 a.m., weather permitting. Games are strictly pick-up and shin guards must be worn. The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to offer a six-week tennis program for boys and girls 5-18 years of age who reside in Garden City beginning Monday, May 3, through Thursday, June 17. The lessons will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.

All Garden City residents are welcome to join the recreation department's women's spring tennis tune up. This program is geared to competitive and tennis team players. All sessions will be run at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The cost of each session is $60. The program has been divided into five sessions, as follows:

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run in four-week sessions. The registrant has a choice of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday at either 7 to 8 p.m. or 8 to 9 p.m. Invoices will be sent out once classes have been assigned. There will be a maximum of four players per court. Players will be grouped according to ability level. The beginning session dates will be as follows:

The recreation department's Adult Tennis Ultimate Workout will be held on the following Saturdays: May 1, 8, 15, 22 and June 5 and 12 from 10-11:30 a.m. the cost of this program will be $120. To register for adult tennis lessons or the adult ultimate workout, visit the recreation office in village hall.
Now that the weather is turning warmer, it is time to think about getting back into shape. The recreation department's aerobics classes are just the thing to get your heart pumping and your body moving. Pat Kennedy and Joy Cody, experienced instructors who try to tailor their programs to the ability level of participants, teach the classes.
The easy way to participate in the aerobics classes is to purchase a "20 Class Pass." By purchasing this pass, participants can attend any class that fits their schedule. The cost of a pass is $60. Passes may be purchased at Cluett Hall or in the recreation office in village hall. If you'd like to try a class or two before purchasing a pass, daily admission to a class is $4.

Adelphi's pool in Woodruff Hall is again available for adult residents of Garden City who would like to swim for exercise.
