Special thanks to parade directors George Nigohosian and Chris Smalley, along with representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, police, special police and Department of Public Works for making the Easter Auto Parade the success it was. It was most gratifying to see all of the smiles on the faces of all of those in attendance.

The Garden City Recreation Department has teamed up with the Viking Culinary Arts Center and King's Supermarket to offer a new event for senior residents of Garden City. Interested seniors can watch a professional chef instructor present a demonstration on "One Day of Cooking for Multiple Meals." This interesting demonstration will be held in the state of the art cooking studio at the Viking Culinary Arts Center, located at 835 Franklin Avenue, on Wednesday, May 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This demonstration is offered at a reduced price of $15 per person and includes a light lunch as a result of foods prepared during the demonstration. Interested seniors, aged 60 and older, can now sign up at the recreation office in village hall. Payment must accompany registration and all checks should be made payable to the Incorporated Village of Garden City.

Seats are limited to the first 40 registrants. All attending will receive a 10 percent discount on retail purchases at the Center on the day of registration and for future cooking lessons.

The village appreciates and wishes to acknowledge the support of King's for supplying the food for the demonstration and the Viking Culinary Arts Studio for hosting the event.

We all want to keep the environment clean and green. However, I would like to remind the village residents that although we want to have beautiful lawns and flowers, we must keep in mind the village's law with regard to water conservation (Local Law 3-1987) is now in effect.

The restrictions are:

-Lawn sprinkling and garden irrigation only from April 16 to Nov. 30 of each year and only during the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

-Odd numbered properties can water on odd numbered days, even numbered properties on even numbered days and properties with no numbers on even numbered days.

-All newly installed sprinkler systems must have moisture sensors approved by the Department of Public Works. For more information, call 465-4012.

-All home car washing must be done with hoses fitted with spray nozzles with automatic shut-off.

-Use of water for washing down driveways or walkways is prohibited.

Please cooperate by observing these restrictions. The police department has been requested to issue appearance tickets to those persons found to be in violation of this law.
