Your board of trustees conducted a work session at a special meeting of the board on April 1 with counsel, staff and Frank Fish, principal of Buckhurst Fish Jacquemart, the village's planning consultant on the re-zoning of the Public "P" District. Following numerous public forums and two public hearings on the P-Zone Committee's recommendations and the recommendations by the board as a whole, Mr. Fish was directed to review and update the committee's recommendations on the proposed zoning changes and to re-examine the impacts of the various alternatives proposed. This was a productive session where Mr. Fish's recommendations were discussed in detail.
We have directed Mr. Fish to submit revised P-Zone recommendations, which he will present publicly at a regular meeting April 22 at 8 p.m. in village hall. I encourage the public to attend and provide comments. At this meeting the board will discuss and decide, if appropriate, when a public hearing will be scheduled.
Working under a special permit from the village, food establishments on Seventh Street, New Hyde Park Road and Franklin Avenue have placed tables outside their shops and restaurants for your convenience and enjoyment. Please stop by to let merchants know that you appreciate their efforts and enjoy the many fine tastes of Garden City.
Residents in the Village of Garden City are very fortunate to have a vital business community comprised of merchants who are committed to serve us from their shops along Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road. I urge each of you to continue to patronize these local businesses throughout the year. Also, while you are in the store, take a minute to comment on their selection and quality and where appropriate compliment them on their attention to customer service.
