The GCAC and Florida-based Doyle Academy Baseball School - the #1 baseball and softball school in the country since 1978 - will be sponsoring a professional baseball clinic Saturday, April 17 (12-6 p.m.) and Sunday, April 18 (1-5 p.m.) at St. Paul's field house.

The coaches' clinic will be held Saturday morning, April 17, from 9 am to 12 p.m. Each player will receive professional evaluation in hitting, throwing and fielding and professional instruction from teaching experts and professional coaches. There will be fun and competition stations. All players will receive home drills for the areas in which they need most improvement. The GCAC will be sponsoring Cal Ripken Little League baseball this spring. The intramural season will begin the week of Monday, April 12. Garden City baseball and softball intramural teams will play in Garden City and have an opportunity to play in the World Series at the Cal Ripken Baseball Academy in Maryland.

The GCAC will be sponsoring travel baseball teams for 12-year-old players to compete in Cooperstown, NY Aug 26-29. Those interested in participating should contact Tony Colantonio at 248-8525 or via e-mail at GCACNY@aol.com. Try-outs will be held July 24, 25 and 26. The number of teams will be determined by the number of players interested (10 to 12 players per team). Everyone who wishes to participate will be accepted. Practices will be held every other day and players must attend a minimum of 10 practices to be eligible for the tournament.

The GCAC is now accepting registrations for its intramural spring roller hockey season for ages 5 to 18. Registration fee for fourth grade and below is $55 per player and for fifth grade and above, $90 per player. Games begin this Saturday, March 20. The GCAC will also conduct sessions for children who would like to learn how to roller blade. All intramural games will be played at Garden City Community Park roller hockey rinks. There will be two two-hour sessions per week for each grade level. Conflicts with other sports will be held to a minimum. Those interested in joining please call Michael Ventre at 747-1362. The referee clinic will be held this Friday night, March 19, and Saturday morning, March 20. All referees must attend one of these clinics. The GCAC is still accepting registrations for its inaugural indoor soccer season. Games will be held in the St. Paul's field house on weekday evenings and on weekends. Teams range in age from 5 to adult. Boys and girls - men's and women's divisions. The GCAC is proud to offer this sport for the first time to Garden City residents. Contact them for more details.

All GCAC programs are open to Garden City residents; non-Garden City residents, and their families, attending any school in Garden City; and non-Garden City residents residing within the confines of the Garden City School District. Applications are available in the recreation department at village hall, in Cluett Hall at the St. Paul's field house or via e-mail request at GCACNY@aol.com. The GCAC will have registration sessions at Cluett Hall for all of its spring programs (baseball, softball, roller hockey, volleyball, indoor soccer) this Saturday, March 20 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
