Hearts N' Parks is a national community-based program supported by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and the National Recreation and Parks Association. This inventive program aims to reduce the growing trend of obesity and the risk of coronary heart disease in the U.S. by encouraging people of all ages to aim for a healthy weight, follow a heart-healthy eating plan and engage in regular physical exercise. The plan teaches people of all ages how to incorporate heart-healthy eating and physical activity into their daily lives. Hearts N' Parks encourages citizens to use park programs and facilities to increase their daily physical activity.
The Garden City Recreation Department will support residents in their efforts to join this growing trend by creating packets of information following a monthly theme. A different topic for healthy living will be announced each month and informational packets pertaining to this subject will be made available at Cluett Hall, Community Park's Tennis Hut, the Senior Recreation Center and the recreation office in village hall.
