If you have ever thought of playing the guitar or keyboard but didn't know how to get started, these courses are just for you. The recreation department will be running a six-week beginner guitar and keyboard lesson program for residents beginning Thursday, Feb. 26. The classes will be held in the Garden City Middle School and will run according to the following schedule:

Beginner guitar for 6-12 grades 6:30-7:25 p.m.

Beginner keyboard for grade 6-adult 7:30-8:25 p.m.

Beginner guitar for adults 8:30-9:25 p.m.

Please note students must supply their own instruments for the course. The cost of each program will be $40. There will be a small expense for books and supplies, which will be payable directly to the instructor. To register for any of these classes, visit the recreation office in village hall. The recreation department is sponsoring a teen movie night for residents in grades 6-9 this Friday, Feb. 13. Pirates of the Caribbean starring Johnny Depp will be the featured show. Recreation staff will supervise the movie at Cluett Hall. The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2. The movie runs approximately two hours and 23 minutes. Snacks can be purchased at a nominal charge.

Once children are in the facility, they will not be allowed to leave unless accompanied by an adult. Please come to Cluett Hall to pick up your child.

During the mid-winter recess, the recreation department will conduct a gym program for village youth in the St. Paul's field house. The gym program will be held from Tuesday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 20. The schedule for the program is as follows:

Grades K-1 9-10:30 a.m. Planned activities

Grades 2-3 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Planned activities

Grades 4-6 12-2 p.m. Planned activities

Grades 6-12 2-5:30 p.m. Supervised

On Wednesday, Feb. 18, the recreation department will show the movie, Spy Kids 3 (rated PG) in Cluett Hall. Show time will be 1 p.m. admission is free and snacks may be purchased for a nominal charge. The recreation staff will supervise the movie. For information, call 465-4075.

The recreation department will offer the following dance classes for adults:

Adult Stretch (exercise w/ dance movements) Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

Adult Ballet Wednesday at 9:45 a.m.

Adult Stretch Thursday at 9:30 a.m.

Adult Jazz Saturday at 12 p.m.

Each class is one hour long and will be held in Cluett Hall. Classes began the week of Feb. 2 and will run for 13 weeks. The cost of each 13-week class will be $104. To register for any of these classes, visit the recreation office in village hall.

Adelphi's pool in Woodruff Hall is again available for adult residents of Garden City who would like to swim for exercise. The days and times are as follows: Monday through Thursday from either 8:30-9:30 p.m. or 9:30-10:30 p.m. This program is free but the time must be reserved by calling the recreation office at 465-4075 on the day you would like to swim.
