Conor O'Brien became Garden City's second News 12 Long Island- Citibank Scholar Athlete award winner of the school year. He was filmed Dec. 16 for viewing on News 12 and was awarded this honor for his high academic standings combined with his athletic honors following his performance on the football field this season.

This award is presented to an athlete who combines high academic standings, a high level of athletic ability and is involved in school and community activities. All 30 weekly winners attend a dinner in June where they are honored and have the possibility of winning additional scholarships.

After Garden City's 20-0 victory over Riverhead in the Long Island championship game, O'Brien was named the offensive Most Valuable Player of the game. In three years as a starting quarterback, O'Brien is 19-5. He was also a starting midfielder on Garden City's 17-1 lacrosse team last spring.
