The recreation department is sponsoring Teen Movie Night on Friday, Jan. 16 in Cluett Hall. The movie will be Bruce Almighty starring Jim Carey. All children in grades 6-9 are invited to attend. This movie is rated PG-13. The movie will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission to this event will be $2. Snacks will be sold at a nominal cost. The running time for this movie is 101 minutes.

Please note that once the children are in Cluett Hall, they will not be allowed to leave without being accompanied by a parent.

On Sunday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m., the recreation department will sponsor "Predator - Guardians of the Environment," a wildlife show presented by the Regional Wildlife Program Center. This show will take place in Cluett Hall. Bill Fix, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for the U.S. Wildlife Services, will use live animals and birds to explain the answers to the predator and prey relationship, why species are being endangered, and how these animals work in the environment. This performance will be geared to children ages 5-12. To reserve a seat at this program, call the recreation office at 465-4075.

On Sunday afternoons, St. Paul's field house will have designated open gym time for village families. The program began Jan. 11. This open time provides the opportunity for families to enjoy various gym activities in an indoor environment. The gym will be available for use from 12-3:30 p.m. each Sunday now through March.

This time is designed for residents to use the field house on a family and individual basis. No organized practices or workouts will be allowed. Although there will be staff in the field house to monitor activities, this is not a drop off program. The recreation department asks that an adult accompany elementary aged children.

The family movie for January will be the Rugrats Go Wild, rated PG. The recreation department will show this film in Cluett Hall on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. Admission is free and snacks will be available for purchase at a nominal charge.

The recreation department has tickets on consignment for the following shows at the Nassau Coliseum:

Disney on Ice - The Jungle Book, January 22 7 p.m. $20/ticket

Disney on Ice - The Jungle Book, January 24 11 a.m. $20/ticket

Monster Truck Jam- February 8, 2 p.m., $20 adult/$12.50 child under 13

Harlem Globetrotters-February 15, 3 p.m., $27/ticket

Tickets for these shows can be purchased at the recreation office in village hall. Garden City residents may purchase up to six tickets for any one show. Tickets must be purchased with cash - no checks will be accepted. For further information or to reserve tickets, call the recreation office at 465-4075.

It is again time to begin the recreation department's adult basketball program on Saturday mornings. This program began Saturday, Jan. 10 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon in the middle school's girls' gym, located on the northeast side of the middle school. Please note that this program is open to adult residents of Garden City only. A photo ID will be necessary to gain entrance. Call the recreation office at 465-4075 for more details.
