The recreation department's adult ultimate workout for tennis will begin Saturday, Jan. 3. This five-week program offers adults who play tennis a drill time with one of the department's tennis pros to hone their skills. The session runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each week and costs $100. It is open to village residents. To register or for further information, visit the recreation office in village hall. The recreation department's Friday Night Roller Hockey program has begun. There are still openings available in the 6-7-year-old age group. This age group meets from 6-7 p.m. each Friday at the Community Park roller hockey rinks. The cost of the program is $25 and is open to children who are village residents. For information or to register, call Andrew Karen, the program's moderator, at 483-2525.

Looking for some easy shopping for the holidays? The recreation department has secured great seats to some of the best events at the Nassau Coliseum. Visit the recreation department in village hall to buy tickets to the following events:

Disney on Ice - The Jungle Book January 22 7 p.m. $20

Disney on Ice - The Jungle Book January 24 11 a.m. $20

Monster Truck Jam February 8 2 p.m. $20 adult/$12.50 child

Harlem Globetrotters February 15 3 p.m. $27

Champions on Ice April 8 7 p.m. $65.50

Note: Tickets are available to residents of Garden City only. All purchases must be made in cash - no checks will be accepted. To reserve tickets for any event, call the recreation office at 465-4075 and they will be held for up to one week. Any one family may purchase no more than six tickets.

This 10-week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still life in pastel from photographs. The first lesson will include a portrait and landscape demonstration. At this time a supply list will be provided. Students will be given the option of dividing each three-hour session between portrait or landscape/still life, or they may choose to concentrate solely on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required at his/her own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Ruth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Patel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her commissioned portraits hang in many Garden City homes, and her commissioned portraits include Elvis Presley.

This class is open to adult residents who reside in the village. The class will run from 9 a.m. to noon each Friday beginning Jan. 23 in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of this program will be $125. To register, visit the recreation office in village hall. For further information, call 465-4075.

The recreation department is announcing the start of a series of interviews for summer jobs at the pool. If residents enjoy being outdoors and are willing to make a commitment to being a part of a team that works hard to provide quality facilities for residents, the recreation department would like to meet you.

Current high school juniors or those older who are looking for a great summer job should stop by the recreation office in village hall to pick up an application and sign up for an interview.

Reminder: those who were employed by the pool last year are still required to reapply and be interviewed for the upcoming season. Interviews will be conducted on the following dates:

Saturday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The recreation department's children's tennis program will begin its second session on Monday, Jan. 5. There are openings available in all levels. Please visit the recreation office in village hall for further information.
