The Garden City Chamber of Commerce has announced the 10 shop windows judged by professional artist Suzie Alvey and representatives of the property owners' associations to be the most beautifully decorated in the central business district for the 2003 holiday season. Also announced was a winner of the New Hyde Park Road commercial district.
Of the 10 winners on Franklin Avenue and Seventh Street, the Pear Tree received the "Toast of the Town" - best overall award. Among the top 10 winners were Andrew Roberts, diSalvo Interiors, Farrell Design Associates, Feldis Florist, Garden City Florist, Garden City Properties, Things & Stuff, B.K. Sweeney's Uptown Grille and West & Stannish Opticians. Additionally, of the west end shops on New Hyde Park Road, Reflections Jewelers was judged to have the most festively decorated window.
The chamber appreciates the efforts of the judges who found it difficult to choose 10 winners among so many beautifully decorated windows in the central business district. In addition to artist Suzie Alvey, judges included Dan Karas (CPOA), Jonathan Schwieger (Estates POA) and John Traxler (WPOA). The chamber also commends all of the village restaurants for outstanding displays.
The winning shops will be photographed and may be seen in an upcoming issue of the Garden City Life. Meanwhile, the chamber encourages residents to take a stroll along Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road to admire the efforts of the business community to enhance both the shopping experience and holiday spirit in the village. The chamber thanks Fran Nelson, manager, and the staff of Seventh Street Café, for providing a delectable array of refreshments for the judges as they deliberated.
