The Garden City Chamber of Commerce has announced the 10 shop windows judged by professional artist Suzie Alvey and representatives of the property owners' associations to be the most beautifully decorated in the central business district for the 2003 holiday season. Also announced was a winner of the New Hyde Park Road commercial district.

'Make A Difference Day' at the Bird Sanctuary
Culminating a months-long planning process, the 2003 Make A Difference Day at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary was a highly successful event that brought over 125 volunteers to participate. Thanks to the superlative efforts of President Rob Alvey, truckloads of perennial plants, shrubs and trees were generously donated by Fury Landscaping of Garden City South, Atlantic Nursery in Freeport and H.R. Talmage Nursery in Riverhead. Alvey summed it up nicely: "Once these nurseries heard about the work our volunteers are doing and the progress we've made as the pilot program with using Nassau County's sumps as a community nature preserve, they were more than generous in supporting our efforts."

Megan Rose Earns 'Scholar Athlete of the Week' Award
Megan Rose led the Garden City field hockey team to their 10th straight Nassau County title. Athletically, she has since garnered the National Field Hockey Coaches Association 2003 All-Region Team Award and All-State Honors.

Brian Kiernan Selected for 2004 Vytra Cup All-Star Hockey Squad
Brian Kiernan, a sophomore at Garden City High School, has been named to the Nassau County high school hockey all-star squad, which will face off against Suffolk County in the 8th annual Vytra Cup Jan. 10 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.
