I heartily concur with Stephen Blicharski's observation ["What's Rational Reasoning for Head-in Parking?" Oct. 16, 2003] regarding the unsafe rules in Garden City that mandate head-in parking. We are now often sandwiched between SUVs and trucks and must back out inch by inch for several feet before we can see an auto or a pedestrian.

I believe, as Blicharski does, that Garden City should reconsider this parking law. It may have worked "once-upon-a-time" before we had such overwhelmingly large vehicles preventing our clear vision. Many SUVs and vans have such dark tinted windows as to render them into trucks impossible to see through.

I have been an opponent of Head-in-Parking since I moved here in l996 and I received a parking ticket in Lord & Taylor's lot. It never occurred to me to even look for such a sign then because in all my many years of driving I had never encountered such a ridiculous law. SUVs, etc. were much more rare then. They have proliferated like rabbits.
