The recreation department, in cooperation with Winthrop-University Hospital, the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizens' Affairs and Nassau County Medical Center, will conduct a flu immunization program for the senior residents of Garden City on Tuesday, Dec. 2. This is a free program.
The flu shot program will be held at the recreation center at 6 Golf Club Lane from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be no out of pocket cost to participate in the program but each senior should bring his/her Medicare card with them and each should have their social security number with them as it will be needed to fill out forms.
To participate in the program, pre-registration will take place Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m. Village residents aged 60 or older that are interested in receiving a flu shot must call the recreation department at 465-4075 to make an appointment or for more information.
If your child is looking for tennis competition in an intramural setting, the Ladder program is the program to pick. This program offers weekly drills and strategy sessions and intramural matches on a weekly scheduled basis.
Children who reside in the village are eligible. The child must be able to serve, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score unassisted and understand the rules of the game. For information, call Sue Tarzian at 741-2906 or the recreation department at 465-4075.
The recreation department will be conducting children's swimming lessons for residents at the Adelphi swimming pool in Woodruff Hall on Saturday mornings. Your child must be 6 years of age by the start of the program to participate. The classes will begin Saturday, Nov. 1. Red Cross certified instructors will teach the classes. The cost is $40.
Level 2 - Beginner - will stress primary skills
Level 3 - Advanced Beginner - will stress stroke readiness
Level 4 - Intermediate - will stress stroke development
Level 5 - Swimmer - will stress stroke refinement
Level 6 - Advanced Intermediate Swimmer - will stress stroke proficiency

To register: immediately by mail only. However, walk-ins are now being accepted. Forms can be picked up at the recreation office in village hall or those interested can make their own by listing their child's name, address, birth date, phone number and a first and second choice of classes. Full payment must accompany the registration. Make checks payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City. Mail the registration form and payment to the Recreation Department, 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530.
The recreation department has been able to obtain the best group tickets available for the Thursday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 22 performances of Monster Inc. at Nassau Coliseum. The Thursday evening performance begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are located in section 104. The cost of tickets to this performance is $25. Tickets for the 11 a.m. show on Saturday cost $20 and are located in section 205.
Residents who'd like to purchase tickets to either of these shows should visit the recreation office in village hall. All tickets must be purchased in cash; no checks will be accepted. Tickets are available to any Garden City resident. Any one person may purchase a maximum of six tickets. For information, call 465-4075.
The recreation department's adult swim lessons began Oct. 7 at Adelphi University's indoor pool, located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult, 18 years or older, who resides in the village. The pool is open for use Mondays through Thursdays in two sessions: 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.
Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation department. Participants must register each day they'd like to swim by calling the recreation department at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time. For more information, call 465-4075.
