The recreation department has secured tickets to the Thursday, Oct. 23 performance of Tony Hawk's North American Tour 2003. Take the kids to see the latest tricks performed on skateboards, motor cross and BMX bikes. Tickets for this 7 p.m. show can be purchased at a discounted cost of $36 per ticket by visiting the recreation office in village hall. All tickets must be purchased in cash; no checks accepted. The recreation department has been able to obtain the best group tickets available for the Thursday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 22 performances of Monster Inc. at Nassau Coliseum. The Thursday evening performance begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are located in section 104. The cost of tickets to this performance is $25. Tickets for the 11 a.m. show on Saturday cost $20 and are located in section 205.

The recreation department began Drop-In Tennis at Grove Park Oct. 7. This program, which is run by Tennis Pro Dennis Mah, will take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for four weeks. Sign-ups are done at the park. The recreation department's adult swim lessons began Oct. 7 at Adelphi University's indoor pool, located in Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult, 18 years or older, who resides in the village. The pool is open for use Mondays through Thursdays in two sessions: 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Anyone interested in this program must sign up through the recreation department. The recreation department is sponsoring open soccer time for village residents who are high school graduates or older. The program, which began Saturday, Sept. 20, will be open each Saturday at St. Paul's Field #2C from 9 to 11 a.m., weather permitting. Games will be strictly pick-up and shin guards should be worn. There are limited openings available in the recreation department's Dance Conservatory Program. This program contains ballet, tap and jazz classes for all level dancers. The recreation department's creative movement classes are geared to the 3.5 to 5-year-old. Creative Movement stimulates the imagination through the use of simple coordinated moves that are easy to follow. Classes stress physical awareness, rhythm, listening skills and skill development by muscle groups.
Children in this age group who are residents of Garden City are encouraged to attend this exciting class. Mary Searson, the teacher of these classes, has extensive knowledge of this age group and has created a program suitable for everyone's abilities.

The recreation department has opened two Saturday Pee-Wee tennis classes for the four- to five-year-old village resident. The classes will be held for 50 minutes and will be available at either 12:30 or 1:30 p.m. Each of these classes will run for 10 weeks at a cost of $125. Classes began Oct. 4.
