Police Commissioner Ernest J. Cipullo advises that the police department has received several inquiries and complaints regarding the use and operation of Go-Peds or motorized scooters in the village.

It is illegal to operate Go-Peds in New York State on sidewalks, public streets or highways. They are considered motor vehicles but do not have the correct equipment or design for operation on public roadways, and as such cannot be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

The police department recognizes the lack of safety equipment and the potential hazards associated with the operation of these motorized devices, in particular the danger to young children who may be injured by one being operated illegally on the sidewalk by an older child.

Anyone observed operating one in violation of the law will be ticketed where applicable and the device impounded. The department asks the cooperation of parents in making their children aware of the law and the serious consequence of operating these illegal motorized devices.
