Herbert G. Elsinger, of Garden City, died on Sept. 25, 2003. Husband of the late Ann Marie. Father of Ann Gaebel, Jane Hutter, Lynn Braun and Alan Elisinger. Evelyn Franz McGarr, 93, died on Sept. 26, 2003 after a long illness. The loving daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Duffy Franz, Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late John D. Jr. McGarr; devoted mother to Jane (Montgomery) and John D. Jr.; and the adored grandmother of Katherine Elizabeth and Eileen Mary McGarr. She graduated from Adelphi University Class of 1931. It was an honor for her to have served as the first alumnae trustee of Adelphi University and she was a former president of the Friends of the Adelphi University Library. Being a 45-year member of the Garden City Branch of AAUW and a longtime volunteer at the Garden City Exchange gave her pleasure. Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Chapel, Garden City. Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemtery. Donations in her memory can be made to Friends of the Adelphi University Library.
Helen Mackintosh, of Garden City, died on Sept. 29, 2003. Wife of the late Douglas Mackintosh. Mother of Sandy and Betty. Grandmother of five. A memorial service will be held at Judson Memorial Church, Manhattan, in November.
Robert M. Loftus, died peacefully on Sept. 29, 2003, in Charlotte, NC, in his 84th year. Bob, born in Brooklyn, was a longtime resident of Stewart Manor. Husband of the late Eileen. Father of Kathleen Ryan, Carol Walsh and Robert Loftus Jr. Father-in-law of George and James. Grandfather of Kellyann, Michael, Paul, Ann Marie, Robert, John and Matthew. Great-grandfather of three. Brother of Patricia O'Neil. Uncle of Denise, John, Patricia, Thomas and Brian. A graduate of St. John's University, Bob retired after 35 years from Asiatic Petroleum. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Funeral service at St. Anne's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
