'Fridays on Seventh Street' a Growing Problem
Police Commissioner Ernest Cipullo would like to make the parents of Garden City Middle School students aware of a growing problem after school dismissal on Fridays: an event created and locally referred to by middle school students as Fridays on Seventh Street.

The Garden City Community Council on Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention presents Dr. David Wilmes, an acclaimed prevention specialist with 30 years of experience, on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the Garden City High School cafeteria at 7:30 p.m. He is the author of numerous books, curricula and articles, including the best-selling Parenting for Prevention, which has sold over 250,000 copies. Dr. Wilmes has also been featured as a prevention expert in numerous local and national media, including USA Today, CBS Morning News and ABC's Good Morning America.

St. Paul's Athletic Fields Reopen September 13
The village is proud to announce that the athletic fields at St. Paul's reopened Saturday, Sept. 13 after being closed for improvements for the past year. Over 30 acres of newly renovated athletic fields have been finely cultivated to produce excellent playing conditions for thousands of village residents. The installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system will keep the fields playable during the spring, summer and fall seasons.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department is sponsoring open soccer time for village residents who are high school graduates or older. The program, which began Saturday, Sept. 20, will be open each Saturday on St. Paul's Field #2C from 9 to 11 a.m., weather permitting. Games will be strictly pick up and shin guards should be worn.
