The Garden City Athletic Club, in cooperation with the New York Rugby Club, will continue their rugby program, which meets twice a week at the Garden City Community Park rugby pitch (also known as the soccer field) on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Aug. 6.

The Garden City Athletic Club thanks the New York Rugby Club and the Village of Garden City for assisting the club in this inaugural season. The participation has been better than expected and as such the program will hopefully continue in the fall season with plans for a middle school/high school rugby team in the spring.

Anyone interested in participating this summer is invited to Community Park on Monday and Wednesday evenings. The fee for the remaining four sessions, for those not already registered, will be $10 to cover insurance costs. Applications are available in the recreation department at village hall, in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's and at each rugby session. For further information about the summer program or for those interested in joining the rugby team during the school season, call Charles Deverna at 739-0054 or Tony Colantonio at 248-8525.

The Garden City Athletic Club Summer/Fall Roller Hockey program is scheduled to begin Aug. 11 according to the following schedule:

Players will be evaluated for placement on teams not already formed on Aug. 11, 13, 15, 6 to 9 p.m. at Community Park Hockey Rinks.

Practice/Scrimmage games and referee training will be Aug. 18, 20, 22, 6 to 9 p.m. at Community Park Hockey Rinks.

The intramural season will begin Saturday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The sessions above are open to any resident of Garden City who is considering joining the fall program. Please feel free to come and join us to see if your son or daughter would enjoy themselves.

There will be a 20-game regular season over 10 weeks, followed by two weeks of play-offs shortly after Thanksgiving. The GCAA is still accepting applications, which are available in the recreation department at village hall, in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's or at the Community Pool office. Applications may also be completed at any of the sessions above.

Applications may be mailed or brought to Joe Rocco at 139 Roosevelt Street or to Tony Colantonio at 51 Avalon Road. The fee for participants in grades 1 through 4 is $55 and for grades 5 through 12 is $90 to cover equipment, insurance costs and referee fees. For further information or to complete an application over the phone, please call Joe Rocco at 326-9688 or Tony Colantonio at 248-8525.

Those interested in being a referee should call Ryan Hammer at 354-4988. Those entering middle school or high school and are interested in joining the Roller Hockey Club/Travel Team during the school season, call Steven Hickcox at 860-7821.
