The recreation department's chess club began Tuesday, July 14 in the small meeting room of the Garden City Library. This club will meet from 4-6 p.m. every Tuesday until the library closes for renovations in late August. The chess club is a free program open to village residents who are going into grades 3-7.
The recreation department's first session of the summer theater workshop has been very successful. There are still openings available for the second session of this program, which begins July 28 at Cluett Hall. This session is called "Discovering Drama" and is open to children aged 7-11 who live in the village. Students will be given the opportunity to explore theater by creating it themselves. Using books, music, poetry and their own imaginations, they will create their own original play.

Aerobics will continue during the summer months at Cluett Hall. The recreation department's summer aerobics classes will run according to the following schedule, which began June 30:
Mondays 9:00 a.m.
Mondays 6:45 p.m.
Wednesdays 8:30 a.m.
Thursdays 7:15 p.m.
Fridays 8:30 a.m.
There is no pre-registration for these classes, just show up with sneakers, a towel or a mat. The cost is $4 per class if you pay at the door or those interested can buy a 20-class pass for $60 (just $3 per class). For information, call 742-4905.
The gazebo concert series continues on Thursday, July 31, at 7:15 p.m. with a performance of country music by the group Six Gun. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy some great music this summer by joining neighbors every Thursday evening until Aug. 14.
