Student members of Garden City Middle School's social studies club, the Herodotus Society, held a groundbreaking ceremony (held indoors due to inclement weather) for the "Students' Tribute and Memorial Garden for Veterans," to be built on school grounds, in conjunction with this year's Memorial Day service held May 26. Club Advisors Jennifer Rumbelow and Anthony Lavorino were on hand to answer questions about the proposed project. Also on hand was New York State Senator Kemp Hannon, along with veterans and school and local officials. The senator was publicly thanked for his support for the project.
