The Garden City Fire Department participated in Stewart Manor's annual Fourth of July parade. Unlike years past, this year's theme was a salute to the men and women currently fighting overseas. "With so many men and women unable to be home this Independence Day and enjoy the freedom they are fighting for, we only thought it was right to pay tribute to them," Garden City Fire Department Chief Thomas Foley said.

This year's float was a replica of an M-1 tank painted in desert camouflage. The float was constructed entirely by Garden City volunteer firefighters. On top of the tank was an American flag complete with the names of every Garden City resident fighting overseas. Members of the Garden City Fire Department marching in the parade were dressed from head to tow in camouflage to show their support for the troops.

The Fourth of July parade has become an annual tradition in Stewart Manor. The parade goes through the streets of Stewart Manor and includes neighboring fire departments and ambulance corps.
