I was searching for something else when I came across your article ["Town Honors World War II WASP - GC Resident Receives Distinguished Service Award," 7/10 Garden City Life] about the honoring of the WWII veterans. While that's a great thing that should be happening more often, I was wondering how they chose whom to give the awards to.
There has to be more than seven or eight veterans in Garden City. In fact I know of one more. His name is Herbert "Bill" McDonough. He lives in Garden City. He was a sergeant major stationed in the Philippines during WWII. He doesn't talk about it much but he served and fought hard for his country while leaving his new bride behind and not seeing his firstborn son for the first two years of his life.
He's a great man and I think everyone who fought should at least be recognized, if not given an award. Everyone should be appreciated and thanked wholeheartedly. Thank you.
