The recreation department is pleased to announce its summer concerts at the gazebo, located on village hall property. These concerts will take place every Thursday at 7:15 p.m. starting June 26. The list of concerts is as follows:

June 26 The Terry Nova Little Big Band

July 10 Buddy Merriam and Back Roads

July 17 Barbara Harris and the Toys

July 24 Libby and Company

July 31 Six Gun

Aug. 7 Tom Wagner and the Village Musicmakers

Aug. 14 Jive Five

The recreation department will again offer a summer theater workshop under the directorship of Maureen Bevin O'Gara. Workshops will be held at Cluett Hall from 12-3 p.m. Two three-week sessions will be offered. The curriculum is as follows:

Session #1 - Young Actor's Workshop

Welcoming children ages 7-11. Students will have a chance to experiment in various theatrical games and exercises to stimulate their creativity and give them a chance to shine. Students will expand upon their skills by participating in scene work, which will cumulate to a scene production at the end of the workshop. This course will run for three weeks in July on the following dates: July 7-11, July 14-18 and July 21-23.

Session #2 - Discovering Drama

Welcoming children ages 7-11. Students will be given the opportunity to explore theater by creating it themselves. Using books, music, poetry and their own imaginations, they will create their own original play unique to their group. This course will take place during the following three weeks: July 28-Aug. 1, Aug. 4-8 and Aug. 11-15. The cost each session will be $100. Sign up will take place at the village hall recreation office. For information, call 465-4075.

Aerobics will continue during the summer months at Cluett Hall. The recreation department's summer aerobics classes will run according to the following schedule, which began June 30:

Mondays 9:00 a.m.

Mondays 6:45 p.m.

Wednesdays 8:30 a.m.

Thursdays 7:15 p.m.

Fridays 8:30 a.m.

There is no pre-registration for these classes, just show up with sneakers, a towel or a mat. The cost is $4 per class if you pay at the door or those interested can buy a 20-class pass for $60 (just $3 per class). For information, call 742-4905.

Registration for summer adult tennis lessons is going on now. The July session begins the week of July 7. For information or to register, visit the recreation office in village hall. There are still some openings in the Garden City Community Park Women's Tennis League for the 2003-2004 season. Any Garden City resident 25 or older may join. The season is 26 weeks long, beginning in September and running through April. The registration fee is $410 for singles and $400 for doubles. A $100 deposit is requested at time of registration, with the balance paid by September. Anyone interested, please contact Women's Tennis League coordinator Anne Marie Kenny at 248-2177. The following schedule has limited openings so please reserve a spot soon.
