Garden City High School Valedictorian Russell Krupen will be attending Harvard University next year, but is undecided on what he will study. Krupen is the son of Andrea and Jeffrey. His brother Michael, 20, just finished his sophomore year at Colgate University and his sister Marissa, 15, just completed the ninth grade.
Krupen received a perfect score of 1600 on the SAT and is a national merit scholar. He was also a presidential scholar nominee.
Krupen was editor and chief of the yearbook, MAST, and the literary magazine, Inkspots. He was a member of student court, Spanish club, literary circle, Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society. He was also a participant on the school Mathletes team and an official school library aide.
He appeared in Who's Who In American High School Students all four years of high school. He participated in the Long Island Math Fair every year, winning a silver medal as a freshman, gold medal as a sophomore and bronze medals as a junior and senior.
During his senior year he participated in the second round of the Long Island Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at Adelphi University and was the school's highest scorer on the NSO biology examination. Krupen received the Spanish award for performance in Spanish 5AP, the Margaret McNally Award for performance over four years in the mathematics department, the Dr. Harold S. Turkel award for performance in AP biology, the Science Research award for performance and contribution to Science Research class and the John O. Steinberg award for performance over four years in the social studies department. He was also a finalist for the Stephen K. Tompsett Award for excellence in math, science or technology.
In 2002 Krupen won the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Medal, the Holy Cross Book Award for excellence in the English department, the American Legion Americanism Award for Excellence in American History, the Mathletes Silver Pin Medal Award and the AP Scholar Award.
He was invited to attend the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. as a national scholar. His poem David and Goliath was awarded entry into Letters from the Soul Series anthology and The Sound of Poetry CD anthology.
Krupen was a member of the Garden City Jewish Center Youth Group and taught at the synagogue's religious school.

Garden City High School Salutatorian John Adamo believes individualism and establishing a unique identity are important. He spoke to classmates about those topics as well as branching out and exposing themselves to the larger community at the school's awards night June 2.
Adamo, who will be attending Princeton next year, is the son of Alfred and Cynthia. His older brother Rob, 23, is in medical school at SUNY Downstate, his sister Lauren, 21, attends Holy Cross and his younger sister Elizabeth, 14, just finished eighth grade.
Adamo will be playing on Princeton's lacrosse team. This past season, Adamo was team MVP (Most Valuable Player) and made the All-American lacrosse team. He was named a scholar athlete of Nassau County and voted Nassau County "Midfielder of the Year."
Adamo won the Gallagher Cup Award for highest academic and athletic achievement. He also won the News 12 Citibank scholar athlete award. Adamo was a member of the 2001 and 2002 New York State Empire Games Long Island Men's Lacrosse Team.
In his senior year he was a nominee for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award, a finalist in the 2003 National Merit Scholarship Program and won the AP Scholar award.
During his junior year he received the United States National Soccer Award, the All-American Scholar through the United States Achievement Academy, the Latin 2H award, a Gold Medal in the National Latin Examination, the French 4AP Award, the Dartmouth College Book Award and the George Washington University School of Engineering Medal for Excellence in Math and Science.
During his sophomore year he won a silver medal in the National Latin Examination, the French Award and was a high scorer on both the physics and biology national science Olympiads.
While at Garden City High School Adamo was a member of the varsity lacrosse and varsity soccer teams. He was also a member of Key Club, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and Literary Circle. He served as sports editor of MAST, the school's yearbook. He is a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society.
Adamo tutors students for the SATs, AP statistics and other math and social studies courses. He was chosen to be in Who's Who Among American High School Students all four years of high school.
