As a member of the Senate Health Committee, Senator Hannon has a unique opportunity to make sure that survivors of sexual assault no longer have to suffer from additional trauma caused by an unwanted pregnancy due to the rape.

It is incredible that Senate Bill No. 202, Emergency Contraception in the Emergency Room, still has not come before the Senate Committee on Health for a vote. According to a statewide survey as many as 1,000 rape victims a year are being sent away from hospital emergency rooms in New York without receiving emergency contraception.

How many more victims of the crime of rape must suffer because not all hospitals provide complete and compassionate emergency care?
