The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth soccer camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City during the weeks of Aug. 4 through 7, and Aug. 11 through 14, at Community Park (behind the pool).

This instructional program will be offered for boys and girls ages 6 through 12. Youngsters must be 6 by the start of the camp and entering first grade in September 2003 in order to register for this camp. Proof of age will be required.

The two-hour session will run from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m., at a cost of $60 and will focus on individual development. The five-hour session will run from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $125. The five-hour session will include an hour lunch break and swim session supervised by the soccer camp staff, to be followed by full field games.

The program is in its 25th year of operation and is under the direction of Paul LeSueur. LeSueur has had extensive professional experience as a player, coach, teacher and administrator. The camp staff is comprised of outstanding professional, collegiate and high school players. The purpose of the program is to provide a fun-filled soccer learning experience incorporating the values of sportsmanship.

Youngsters will be placed in age-appropriate groups with the instructor camper ratio not to exceed 1-10. Safe playing techniques and team cooperation will also be stressed. Each participant will receive a T-shirt as well as a Certificate of Completion at the end of the camp.

Cost:

9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

$60 for one week - $125 for one week

$120 for two weeks - $250 for two weeks

When choosing a session, please realize that the full day program is a long day and might not be appropriate for the younger child. Participants must be in good health and able to participate in this physical activity.

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct a pre-school camp for girls and boys 3 1/2 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp must be 3 1/2 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $60. Arts and crafts, music, nature, and stories will fill the one and one half-hour class. The sessions are as follows:

Session I: July 7 through July 11

Session II: July 21 through July 25

Session III: July 28 through Aug. 1

Session IV: Aug. 4 through Aug. 8

Session V: Aug. 11 through Aug. 15

Children must be 3 1/2 years by the start of the class. A copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany the registration.

Those interested can pick up an application at Cluett Hall or the Recreation Office in Village Hall, or make their own by listing the child's name, address, phone number, birthday and the sessions requested in order of preference. A maximum of two sessions may be requested. Payment must accompany each registration. All checks should be made payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City." This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy. This instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering grades three and four in September, 2003 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering grades five and six in September, 2003 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 40 children for each session.

The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important of all, fun! The cost of this camp will be $60, which includes a T-shirt as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the camp.

To register, pick up an application at village hall or make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number and birth date on a piece of paper. Then list the sessions, including dates and times, your child would like to attend. Include this with full payment and mail to Garden City Recreation Dept., 351 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530.

Girls entering third and fourth grades will meet from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Girls entering fifth and sixth grades will meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The recreation department will again conduct a summer baseball camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Village of Garden City, under the direction of Bob Defliese, coach at Garden City High School.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the weeks of July 21 to 24 and July 28 to 31 at Community Park. This instructional program is offered for boys and girls, aged 6 to 12, in two-hour sessions for either one week or two weeks. Children who register for this program must be 6 by the start of the session. Sessions are held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. for children 6 to 8 years old, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 9 to 12 years old. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the importance of playing together as a team. Youngsters in each age category will be divided into appropriate skill levels and will receive group instruction. Instructor-student ratio will not exceed 1-10. Each participant receives a T-shirt as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the camp session. There will be a limit of 50 participants in each session.

Cost: $60 for one week

$120 for two weeks

Equipment Needed: baseball, glove, sneakers or rubber cleats
