The first Sunday of May showcased a budding cross-town lacrosse rivalry as the fourth grade Peter Coleman - Bob Jahelka - John Kufs coached Rams lacrosse team (2-0-1) hosted the undefeated Rockville Centre 'A' squad. Coach Coleman's Rams rode an impressive 10-game unbeaten streak, their last loss dating to the 2002 opener, a narrow 8-7 defeat at the hands of this same Rockville Centre club.

Early on, Rockville Centre dictated the tempo of the game and the groundball edge, as the Rams found themselves in unfamiliar territory, playing from behind and struggling to stay close. First half goals by Matt Clarkson (2 goals, 1 assist), Steve Jahelka (1g, 2a) and wing attackman Joe Horan kept Garden City within arm's reach, down 5-4 at halftime.

The third quarter would belong to Rockville Centre as the Rams would fail to score. The fourth quarter would commence with Garden City having to dig themselves from a 7-4 deficit. Only the stellar performance of first-year goalie, John Bock (15 saves) would keep the Rams within striking distance.

Bock played his finest game of the season in continually turning aside many would-be goals. Upon special request and with no margin for error, Bock proceeded to shut out Rockville Centre for the entire fourth quarter and with about six minutes remaining in the game the Rams offense awakened from the dead.

Back-to-back goals by Austin Kufs and Brian Coleman (1g, 2a) pumped life into the Rams and their faithful fan contingent as Garden City closed to within 7-6. With two minutes remaining, Rockville Centre employed a well-executed spread-formation stall, en route to a much-deserved 7-6 road victory. The Rams quickly regrouped in preparing to host cross-county powerhouse Huntington (4-0) May 11 at Garden City High School.

On March 7 and 8, Buckley Country Day School students participated in Buckley's 18th annual American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart Program. Second, third and fourth-graders jumped rope individually and as a team for 60 minutes during their physical education classes. Students raised $6,575 for medial research and for assisting in financing the treatment of heart disease and stroke for coronary patients. While helping others, this event both encouraged students to live healthy lives by incorporating physical activities for strengthening the cardiovascular system and provided an enjoyable experience for all.
