The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming men's over 35 softball league April 28. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements: teams must be comprised of Garden City residents and all players must be over 35 years old or turning 35 years old during the course of the session. The fee for this league will be $500, which includes games, balls and umpires. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package, including roster (name, address, phone number for each player), a copy of each player's driver's license and a check for the full amount of the league fee made payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City. Packages are now available at the recreation office. Applications will be accepted until 12 completed roster packages are received. The Recreation Department will run the following camps during the summer season of 2003. Please watch this column in the following weeks for upcoming announcements and details on each particular camp. Remember - all age and grade requirements will be strictly enforced.

Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run in three, four-week sessions for one hour each day. There will be a maximum of four players per court. This instructional program will be conducted in 55 minute sessions and will be held at the Community Park Tennis Facility behind the Garden City Pool. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a youth basketball camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City during the week of June 30 to July 3. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy. This instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering grades 3 and 4 in September, 2003 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering grades 5 and 6 in September, 2003 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 40 children for each session. The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation and most important of all, fun! The cost of this camp will be $60 which includes a T-shirt as well as a certificate of completion at the end of the camp. The Stretch Dance Workout, under the direction of Felicia Lovaglio, began the spring session on Tuesday, May 6. There will be two sessions - Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. or Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Each hour long class will run for six weeks at a cost of $36. For further information or to register for a class, please come to the recreation office in village hall. If you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or older, who would like to play softball in one of the recreation department's softball leagues, call the recreation office at 465-4075 to put your name on our player list. The department sometimes has coaches looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address and phone number and the department will keep it on file for the team who is looking for extra players. |
