The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming men's over 35 softball league April 28. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements: teams must be comprised of Garden City residents and all players must be over 35 years old or turning 35 years old during the course of the session.

The fee for this league will be $500, which includes games, balls and umpires. Applications will not be accepted without a completed roster package, including roster (name, address, phone number for each player), a copy of each player's driver's license and a check for the full amount of the league fee made payable to the Inc. Village of Garden City.

Packages are now available at the recreation office. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, May 8 or until 12 completed roster packages are received.

The Recreation Department will run the following camps during the summer season of 2003. Please watch this column in the following weeks for upcoming announcements and details on each particular camp. Remember - all age and grade requirements will be strictly enforced.

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct a pre-school camp for girls and boys 3.5 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp must be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at the St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $60. Arts and crafts, music, nature, and stories will fill the one and one half-hour class. The sessions are as follows:

Session I: July 7 through July 11

Session II: July 21 through July 25

Session III: July 28 through Aug. 1

Session IV: Aug. 4 through Aug. 8

Session V: Aug. 11 through Aug. 15

Children must be 3.5 years by the start of the class. A copy of the child's birth certificate must accompany the registration.

By mail: Immediately. The recreation department cannot be responsible for delays in the mail. Those interested can pick up an application at Cluett Hall or the Recreation Office in Village Hall, or make their own by listing the child's name, address, phone number, birthday and the sessions requested in order of preference. A maximum of two sessions may be requested. Payment must accompany each registration. All checks should be made payable to "Inc. Village of Garden City." Mail the application to the Recreation Office at 351 Stewart Avenue.

In person: Registration will be accepted beginning Wednesday, May 28, 2003. For further information, call the Recreation Office at 465-4075.

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run in three, four-week sessions for one hour each day. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:

The recreation department will also offer the popular ultimate workout program for adults on the following dates:

Applications for these programs can be picked up at the recreation department or at the tennis hut at Community Park.

An additional mini junior tennis session has been scheduled to continue the junior tennis program through the spring weeks ahead. The lessons will run in three two-week sessions, two one-hour lessons per week for a total of four lessons per session. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct a Tennis Camp program for boys and girls aged 7 and up who are residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City. The sessions will run according to the following age groups: 7 and 8 years, 9 through 11 years, and 12 years or older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program will be conducted in two-hour sessions. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:
