Garden City School Board Adopts 2003-04 Budget
At the Tuesday, April 29 board of education meeting, board members adopted the proposed 2003-04 school budget, which according to district officials, accommodates growth, supports and extends instructional programs, continues the implementation of capital improvement projects and continues with the implementation of recent curriculum and instructional initiatives.

Russell Fritz Memorial Service May 3
Colleagues and friends mourn the passing of Russell Fritz on Feb. 1, 2003 from pancreatic cancer. Mr. Fritz's 41-year association with Garden City Public Schools has left many milestones that will long endure. He was born in Forest Hills, Queens on July 10, 1935. He received his BA in English from New York University in June 1957 and his MA in English the following year. He also was a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

GC Bombers Hold Tryouts Sunday, May 11
The Garden City Bombers baseball club will hold tryouts Sunday, May 11 at 6 p.m. at Garden City Community Park Field 4. Participants in this tryout must be 13 years old, not turning 14 before August 1, 2003. The Garden City Bombers is a top quality baseball program with professional instruction, certified coaches and opportunities for inter-city and inter-state competition. The Bombers have represented Garden City around the New York and Long Island areas and in past seasons have even played at Disney's Wild World of Sports and the Doyle Brothers Baseball Academy in Orlando.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department began accepting roster packages for the upcoming men's over 35 softball league April 28. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements: teams must be comprised of Garden City residents and all players must be over 35 years old or turning 35 years old during the course of the session.
