Who Do You Call?

With the spring sports seasons beginning, the recreation department would like residents to know that, although the recreation department allows the various volunteer organizations to use the village field space, it does not run any of the programs. Below is a list of program heads for each spring intramural sport; please call them with questions:

The recreation department's adult swim began at Adelphi University's indoor pool at Woodruff Hall. This free program is open to any adult 18 years or older who is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The pool is open Monday through Thursday at two sessions: 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

You must sign up each day you would like to swim by calling the recreation department at 465-4075. No reservations will be taken ahead of time. For further information, call the recreation office.

The recreation department is now accepting league application packages for upcoming men's spring softball league. Packages can be obtained from the recreation department in village hall. Rosters will be accepted from the first 16 teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:

Businesses located within Garden City.

Teams comprised of current residents of Garden City.

Teams comprised of current employees of Garden City.

The fee for this league will be $450, which covers the cost of umpires, fields, balls and trophies. Application packages will be accepted until 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 or until 16 valid packages are received. For further information, call the recreation department at 465-4075.

The recreation department's annual Easter egg hunt for Pre-K to fifth graders who are residents of Garden City will begin promptly at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. However, due to renovations taking place at St. Paul's fields, the venue has been changed to Garden City Community Park (on the baseball and soccer fields). Read next week's issue of the Garden City Life for further information.

Back by popular demand is the annual Women's Spring Tune-up for competitive and team tennis players. All residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are welcome to participate in this program.

The recreation department has divided this program into five sessions. Each session will include drills, point play, doubles strategy and tips to improve your overall tennis game. The cost of each session will be $60.

Groups are encouraged and all efforts will be made to accommodate team grouping and/or ability level by court and session whenever possible.

Please pick up an application for this program at either the recreation department at village hall or at the tennis hut at Community Park. All applications must be returned to the recreation office in village hall. For questions, please contact Sue Tarzian at 483-2525.

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run in three, four-week sessions for one hour each day. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:

Applications for these programs can be picked up at the recreation department or at the tennis hut at Community Park.

An additional mini junior tennis session has been scheduled to continue the junior tennis program through the spring weeks ahead. The lessons will run in three two-week sessions, two one-hour lessons per week for a total of four lessons per session. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:
