According to William J. Kilfoil, chief of police for the Port Washington Police District, on Feb. 13 an incident took place during a girls varsity basketball game between Port Washington and Garden City at the Paul D. Schreiber High School gym in Port Washington.

A member of the Port Washington team sustained injuries to her face when a Garden City senior guard allegedly punched her in the face. Following the game, the injured player was taken to the hospital by her parents. She was treated and released. The following morning, the injured player filed a police report.

Detective Ryan of the Port Washington Police District conducted a police investigation that resulted in the arrest of the 17-year-old Garden City female on Wednesday, March 5. The defendant voluntarily appeared at Port Washington Police District headquarters, with her attorney, for processing. She was charged with Assault Third Degree, was released on an appearance ticket and arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday, March 11.
