Congratulations to Mayor-elect Barbara K. Miller and Trustee-Elect Robert J. Rothschild as well as Trustees Gerard P. Lundquist, Jon Segerdahl and Peter Negri on their election last Tuesday. It is gratifying to note that the affairs of our village will be in such capable hands.

A reminder that Long Island Blood Services, in conjunction with the employees at village hall, will be holding a blood drive on Tuesday, March 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Fire Department headquarters building on Stewart Avenue. The need for blood has again reached a critical level so please consider donating.

For more information or to schedule an appointment to donate blood, please contact Ronni Evans of the Human Resources Department at village hall (465-4171 or 465-4170).

The annual organizational meeting of the board of trustees will be held on Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m. at the village hall.

All residents are asked to assist in the task of cleaning up our community to make it look like a beautiful "Garden City." We can do that by picking up paper, cans, bottles and other debris, which may have been deposited on the streets and other public areas near their homes. A few minutes of cooperative effort by all of us can make our village look 100 percent better.

Residents are also reminded that rubbish should not be placed on the curb before the evening prior to the collection day. It's a detraction from the aesthetics of the village and poor treatment of one's neighbors to ignore the village law, which specifies that rubbish should not be deposited at curb side before the evening prior to collection.

Pet owners are asked to please be considerate of those who are working to keep our community beautiful and those who are using park areas by cleaning up after your dog and by disposing of the waste at curbside on Wednesdays.

The police department is issuing summonses for these violations which are answerable in the Village Justice Court and can result in a fine for each offense.
