The second phase of the St. Paul's fields development project includes the realignment and construction of a new parking lot, which will provide additional spaces on the property although the exact number has not yet been determined. The lot will run in a north-south direction instead of its current east-west configuration, providing for more green space.

A new roadway has also been incorporated and will run through the property from the Stewart Avenue entrance to the Rockaway Avenue entrance. All of these improvements have been included in the 2003-04 capital budget, which is subject to the board of trustees' approval.

Trustees have been holding budget work sessions, where they've been whittling through what will and will not be included in the budget. The board will publicly vote on this year's capital budget during the April 7 organizational meeting.

For 2004-05, a new support building is slated to go up, along with new basketball courts and baseball fields. Again, these improvements are all subject to trustee approval. According to village officials, if the board does approve the changes incorporated in the 2003-04 budget, the bidding process could begin as early as the end of April. Further, the construction and realignment of the new lot could be performed in conjunction with whatever the board decides to do with the St. Paul's main building.

Further, in addition to the recently planted trees along the Stewart Avenue side of the field complex, plantings will also be included and in years to come, more will be added, providing a buffer.
