John Jordan, a village resident who plays for the Garden City Wings, is among several hockey players who will represent Nassau County in the 7th Annual Vytra Cup Ice Hockey Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Jordan will be in goal for the Nassau team, and with fellow Nassau teammates, will compete against their Suffolk rivals for the championship title, as well as victory in the Skills Competition in puck control, rapid fire, fastest skater, hardest shot and goalie breakaways.
The High School Hockey League Association of Nassau County, Inc. and the Suffolk County High School Hockey League chose the Vytra Cup players from participating Long Island school districts.
Billy Fincke of Garden City Park, who plays hockey for St. Mary's Gaels; Michael Anthony Capasso of New Hyde Park, who plays hockey for Herricks High School; and Jaime Camrinos of Jericho, who plays hockey for the Garden City Jayhawks, are also on the team.
This year's Vytra Cup benefits All Island Handicapped Sports (AIS), a non-profit organization that supports physically challenged children through athletic programs, competitions and structured teamwork as an effort to make all athletes feel good about themselves.
Vytra Cup tickets cost $2 and can be ordered by calling the Nassau League Office at 682-0594. The Vytra Cup kicks off the company's 2003 Community Events Sponsorship season, which includes over 100 sports-related events and activities throughout the year.
