Special thanks to the William Bradford Turner Post of the American Legion of Garden City for conducting the annual Veterans Day ceremony Nov. 11. We appreciate all that they do to honor and remember those men and women who have given of their lives in support of our country.
A resident recently called my attention to several close calls and near misses that he has experienced with adults riding bicycles at high speeds on the sidewalks and suggesting that there should be a law that protects pedestrians. There is a law (Sec. 178.2) which prohibits persons 16 years of age or older from riding a bicycle over any sidewalk or other place reserved for the use of pedestrians within the village.
The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, in cooperation with the Nassau County Department of Health and Nassau University Medical Center, will co-sponsor a free countywide, flu immunization program for senior citizens. The immunization program for our area will be held at the Garden City Senior Recreation Center at 6 Golf Club Lane on Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Registration for this program began Friday, Nov. 1. Residents 60 years of age or older, who are interested in receiving the vaccine should call the Garden City Recreation Department at 465-4075 to make an appointment. Residents should be prepared to indicate if they wish to receive just the flu immunization or if they would like the additional protection of the pneumonia immunization.
