Apostle House Gets Upgrade
Phase I of the restoration project now under way for the Garden City Historical Society Museum at the original Apostle House has begun. Built in the 1870s, the house is one of the original homes here in the village. "This is why it's such an important aspect to the village's history," Joanne K. Adams, Historical Society president, said.

Incumbents Prevail in Local Elections
In the 6th Senatorial District, Republican incumbent Kemp Hannon defeated Democratic candidate Norman St. George. Hannon, who was first elected to the Senate in 1989, received approximately 61 percent of the votes while St. George received approximately 35 percent. Right to Life candidate Paul F. Callahan received 2,067 votes (three percent) while Liberal candidate Patricia Maher received 528 (one percent). This will mark Hannon's eighth term in office.

Lawrence (7-1) held off a late Garden City (5-3) comeback and notched a 20-16 victory to ensure a spot in the Nassau Conference II playoffs. The Garden City loss meant that the Trojans would miss the playoffs for the first time since 1980.
