This past week, the girls' soccer team played the last two games of their season. On Oct. 23, the girls faced Hewlett in a great game. The Garden City offense played an amazing game, scoring five goals off of the Hewlett defense. Goals were scored by Cerrato with two, Mueller with two and Kamrowski with one. Both Lind and Norniella played great games in goal, each with three saves to ensure the victory.

Later that week, on Friday, Oct. 25, the girls faced Baldwin in their first playoff game. Many fans lined the sidelines for the very suspenseful game. In the first half, Cerrato managed to score for Garden City to put the team up 1-0. However, early in the second half, Baldwin scored two quick goals to gain the lead. With 14 seconds left in the game, a penalty was called on Baldwin. Senior Allie Lloyd was set to take the shot. Lloyd had an incredible shot. She kicked the ball off of the top of the goal post, which then bounced down into the goal.

The game then proceeded into overtime. Throughout all of the overtimes, the score remained unchanged. Both teams then took to the field for a shoot out. The swarm of fans made their way down the field to watch both teams take their shots on goal. Fisher and Kamrowski both scored for Garden City, but it wasn't enough. Baldwin won the game by two. Lind had a great game in goal and the game would not have even gotten to a shoot out had she not made as many saves as she did. The entire team played a great game, and although they lost, it was a great game to end the season on.

The boys' varsity soccer team had a shutout game against Great Neck South as they won with a final score of 4-0. Goals were scored by Rotondo and Janeczko, Ben Kimball having two goals in the first half.

In the Class A first-round game Garden City defeated South Side 2-1. Senior Kevin Janeczko scored Garden City's first goal of the game in the second half. South Side player Michael Santo then tied the game with less than nine minutes left in the game. Neither team scored again until John Adamo made a game-winning goal, in overtime. Garden City, who is now No. 8 in their conference, must face No. 1 Massapequa in the quarterfinals.

The MacArthur Generals ended the Garden City Trojans five game-winning streak with a hard fought 7-6 victory. Garden City scored first on a 20-yard pass play from quarterback Conor O'Brien to fullback Brendan Flanagan. However MacArthur linebacker Gian Villante blocked what proved to be an all-important extra-point as Garden City took a 6-0 first quarter lead. Both teams' defenses prevailed in the second quarter and the first half ended with Garden City still ahead 6-0.

In the second half MacArthur was able to put together a 10-play 89-yard drive with running back Gian Villante scoring on a 9-yard run-around right end with 9:54 left in the fourth quarter. The extra-point was good and MacArthur took the lead 7-6. The Trojans were able to mount a drive on their final possession but fell short when Villante broke through to block Chris Miller's 32-yard field goal attempt with 10 seconds left in the game. The Garden City defense was outstanding, once again, and still leads Conference II with only 20 points allowed thus far this season. The 5-1 Trojans' next opponent will be 4-2 Hewlett this Saturday at home at 2 p.m.
