The Garden City Trojans lifted their record to 5-0 with a convincing win over the Calhoun Colts. Once again the league leading Garden City defense gave the offense great field position in the first quarter, forcing a short punt and recovering a Calhoun fumble leading to the first two Garden City scores by Dan Oppedisano on a 1-yard run and a 5-yard run. The first quarter ended with the Trojans up 14-0.
In the second quarter the Garden City offensive line, led by center Ryan Welch, Greg Pando, Bill Champness and Justin Bolebruch controlled the Calhoun defense and allowed quarterback Conor O'Brien to run for 2 touchdowns. O'Brien scored on runs of 6 and 18 yards and completed a beautiful 30-yard touchdown pass to tight end Mark Haase. O'Brien completed 7 of 8 passes for 91 yards and rushed for 50 yards on 12 carries while Oppedisano ran for 53 yards on 7 carries. The Trojans scored 6 out of the first 7 times that they had the ball.
The Garden City defense and special teams were outstanding. The defense, led by hard-hitting defensive end Dennis Hannan, allowed just 2 first downs all day and an interception in the second quarter by Buddy Kennedy helped spark the Garden City onslaught. While the special teams were led by the outstanding play of Ryan Pomponio, the Trojans posted their fourth straight shutout and still lead Conference II with only 13 points allowed in their first 5 games.
Garden City finished out the scoring in the second half with a 1-yard run by Mike Munnelly and a 1-yard run by James DiPietro. The Trojans' next opponent will be MacArthur who boasts a 3-1 record on Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. This will be Garden City's homecoming game so come out and root the Trojans to victory.

This past week, the girl's tennis team ended their season. Their final record was 7-4-1. The girls had a great season with new coach Kelly Benito. The last game of the season ended in a tie due to darkness. Melissa Baricar was playing a very close match against her Massapequa opponent on the second court. When both girls were tied, and the coaches agreed it was too dark to continue, both teams called it a draw. The tie however, was a sign of the girl's progression throughout the year. When the girls first faced Massapequa in the beginning of the season, they lost 0-7. The final score of their second match against Massapequa was 3.5-3.5
The team is losing many seniors this year, including Melissa Pashayan, Jamie O'Sullivan, Stevie Turner, Lauren Alfieri and Meg Allen.
