BOCES Representatives Discuss Upcoming Referendum
The Wednesday, Oct. 9 regular work session of the board of education, to be held at 7 p.m. in the Garden City High School cafeteria, will have representatives from Nassau BOCES discussing the Nov. 19 referendum to purchase a building at 71 Clinton Road in Garden City.
GC Police Extend Counter-Terrorism Network to Its Police Cars
The Garden City Police Department, taking further steps to fight the war on terrorism, unveiled computer terminals in 10 of its patrol cars that will provide access to the statewide counter-terrorism network and provide immediate information regarding any counter-terrorism-related information while patrolling the village.
Local High School Sports Briefs
In the first game of the week the boys' varsity soccer team played Hicksville. The final score was Garden City 2, Hicksville 1. The Trojans kept their opponents busy as Vissichelli, Hicksville's goalie, saved six goals total. Garden City's offense was strong and determined and their defense was trying to block everything, with the help of Chris Torino who had a total of three saves in goal for the Trojans. Garden City's offense was key, as they took a 2-0 lead in the first five minutes of the second half.

The Garden City Senior League concluded an exciting baseball season with the Yankees' heart-stopping 4-3 extra innings win over the defending champions, the Marlins. Both teams played like champs, displaying good fundamental baseball throughout the tight contest. The Marlins fought back gallantly to tie the score with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, only to see the Yankees rally for the win in the bottom of the eighth.
