The Garden City Community Park Tennis Facility is now closed in order to get the courts ready for the contract season. The facility will reopen on Sunday, Sept. 22. All seasonal contracts will begin that week.
The recreation department's drop-in tennis program began again on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The program will run every Tuesday and Thursday at Grove Park. The sessions will run one hour in length at 10 and 11 a.m. The cost of this program is paid at the time a participant takes the class and will be $10 for one hour and $15 for two hours. Sign-ups are now underway. Three levels of play are offered: beginner, intermediate and advanced and matches are played on Wednesday evenings at 7, 8 and 9 p.m. The league fee is $100 per team and includes court time, paddles, balls, lessons and an awards party at the end of the season. For those who'd like to learn how to play the exciting sport of platform tennis, why not join the beginner lesson program? Held on Thursdays at noon, these one-hour learn and play lessons will introduce participants to the ever-growing sport. For more information, call Steve Epsey at 483-2525. Fall try-outs will be held on Sept. 30 and, if necessary, Oct. 1, for all Garden City residents who missed the spring tryouts or are interested in playing on a paddle team this season. Call Sue Tarzian at 741-2906 for details.
Bring a smile to a pre-schooler's face as they complete their own craft project each week during this eight-week program. Grace Chianese, arts and crafts director, has picked many "small fingers" friendly crafts to keep your child happy during this 45-minute session. This program will be held in Cluett Hall on St. Paul's campus.
Registration for this session was held at Cluett Hall at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 17. Classes will begin the week of Sept. 23 and will be offered on the following days and times:
Mondays: 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.
Wednesdays: 12:15 to 1 p.m.
Thursdays: 10:45 to 11:30 a.m.
The following guidelines have been set for this program:
* There will be a maximum of 5 children per session.
* The child enrolling must be 3.5 years by the start of the session and can be no more than 5 years old.
* The child must not be in kindergarten.
* The child must be able to stay in the craft room without a parent.

The recreation department is now accepting registrations by mail only for its Dance Conservatory Program. The directors are new, many classes are new and the sessions have changed so please read through all choices carefully before making selections. One of the biggest changes is that all classes listed for first grade and up will now last for 26 weeks, which is reflected in the price. All classes will begin the week of Sept. 23.

A year round aerobics program takes place almost every day in Cluett hall at St. Paul's. Pat Kennedy and Joy Cody, aerobics instructors, run the classes for all levels. The schedule is as follows:
