Republican Primary for 4th C.D in Question
Earlier this summer, four local Republicans announced their candidacy for the 4th Congressional District (C.D.). Now, with the deadline for signed petitions come and gone, Republican Daniel Frisa of Salisbury is challenging the nominating petitions submitted by opponents Alan Skorski of West Hempstead and Marilyn O'Grady and Steve Irace of Garden City.

Village Finalizing Plans for 9/11 Memorial
The board of trustees will soon approve plans and drawings, which are currently being finalized and prepared, for a village memorial that will honor those residents lost at the World Trade Center and their families, according to Robert Schoelle, village administrator. Representatives of those families will have final input regarding these plans.

Recreation Department News
The recreation department is pleased to give residents a preview of this year's dance program, open to children aged 4 and up who are residents of the village. The department welcomes two new dance directors: Felicia Lovaglio and Jen Gigante, who have created new, innovative classes. Residents will see several new offerings and age groupings available. Registration and fees for these exciting classes will be announced in an upcoming Garden City Life.

Swim-A-Cross Raises Funds in Memory of Those Lost
Several local residents participated in the American Red Cross (ARC) of Nassau County's 13th Annual Swim-A-Cross on Friday, Aug. 16 at Centre Island Beach in Bayville. This year, 163 swimmers - 47 who swam in memory of a loved one who perished on September 11, 2001 - came out to raise funds for the ARC, a nationwide organization that helps people in tragic emergencies.
