Just a reminder that each neighborhood playground offers a games program and arts and crafts free for all children ages 6-14 who live in Garden City. To find out more please visit your local park. This program continues through Aug. 16. The recreation department began running their popular summer Chess Club Tuesday, July 16 at the Garden City Library's small meeting room from 4 to 6 p.m. This program will run every Tuesday through Aug. 27. The Chess Club is free and open to children in third through eighth grade who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Paul Dooher will again moderate this program. For further information call the recreation department at 465-4075.

A drama workshop will be held in August for children aged 11 - 13 who are Garden City residents. Maureen Bevin O'Gara has come up with a great program for children who are interested in learning about acting, sets, staging and other techniques involving theatre. The workshop will run Monday through Friday for two weeks beginning the week of Aug. 12 according to the following schedule:

Children aged 11 to 13 years - 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The cost of this workshop will be $60. Space is limited to 12 children in each class.

To register: By mail or in person immediately. If registering by mail, please list the child's name, address, phone number, birth date and the code "Drama Camp" on a sheet of paper and mail it with a check payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City" to the recreation department at 351 Stewart Avenue.

The last trip to Adventureland will take place Friday, Aug. 9. On Friday, the recreation bus will leave at 11 a.m. from Grove Park and transport the children. The children will enjoy unlimited rides for three hours and then return to the same park around 4 p.m. The cost of this trip will be $14. Payment must be made in cash only.

The recreation department has revised the Adult Summer Tennis Lesson program. This program is open to any residents of the village, 18 years or older. The cost of this program will be $90 per session. To provide more flexible scheduling of program offerings, classes will run on the following dates and times: Mondays Session II - Aug. 12, 19, 26, 8:30-10 p.m. - Learn and Play for novice, intermediate and advanced. Tuesdays Session II - Aug. 13, 20, 27, 8:30-10 p.m. - Beginners only - Learn & Play. Wednesdays Session II - Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28, 8:30-10 p.m. - Learn & Play for novice, intermediate and advanced. Thursdays Session II - Aug. 8, 15, 22, 29, 8:30-10 p.m. - Learn and Play for novice, intermediate and advanced. To register for any of these sessions, please come to the recreation department in village hall.

There are still openings in the popular Pee-Wee Tennis program. This program is being held in the neighborhood parks for children aged 4 to 6 years and are residents of Garden City. For $30, the child receives five days of 45-minute instruction and a Mr. Pee Wee T shirt. This program is offered during the mornings according to the following schedule:

Hemlock Park, week of August 5

Edgemere Park, week of August 12
