Legislator Vincent Muscarella recently approved an ordinance for the Hepatitis C Education Program. This program will allow the Nassau County Department of Health to track, study and educate the public about the dangers of the Hepatitis C disease. The $10,000 ordinance is 100 percent reimbursable by the National Association of County and City Health Officials.

Nassau County health officials will be meeting to plan strategies on how to reduce transmission of the disease and how to improve treatment of Hepatitis C. Through this ordinance, the county will also provide professional training on the risk factors associated with Hepatitis C and how it affects individuals.

"This ordinance will allow for Nassau County health officials to spread the word of the dangers of Hepatitis C and hopefully through education the number of reported Hepatitis C cases in Nassau will decline," Muscarella said.
