LeRoy E. Tompkins Sr., formerly of Garden City, died on June 22, 2002. A US Army veteran who served in North Africa, Italy and France, he was a retired vice president and secretary for Frankel Shops. He served as president of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce from 1965 to 1967 and 1972 to 1973. Son of the late William and Ethel Mae Abrams Tompkins. He was predeceased by his wife Helen Louise Ruby Tompkins. Husband of Ann Baum Tompkins. Father of Ann Alletta Menozzi and LeRoy E. Tompkins Jr. Stepfather of Stephen Schutter. Grandfather of Allettta Gonzalez,Joanna Holcombe, Jennifer Menozzi, Lisa Tompkins and Jonathan Tompkins. Interment Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Thomas F. Maher, of Garden City, died on June 29, 2002. He was employed by Travelers Insurance Co. for 48 years. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret and son Thomas. Husband of Marjorie. Father of Susan and Joseph Festa, Eileen and Wayne Browning, Michael and Jean Maher, Christine and Ken Rathgeber and Patricia Maher. Grandfather of 12. Great-grandfather of nine.
