June 8 marked the opening of the Garden City swimming pool for its 46th season. I understand that it was a great success! Any questions with regard to application forms, procedures, etc. should be directed to the Garden City Pool at 483-1714, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each week when I review the activity reports of the Police Department, I am impressed by the amount of time that members of our Special Police donate to our community. Their activities go well beyond Sunday morning church crossing. During the past weeks members were involved with traffic and crowd control at the Men's Association Sports Fair, Memorial Day Parade and Carnival, Soccerfest and again June 7 at the Belmont Stakes Festival. The next time that you see one of these ladies or gentlemen, please take a minute to thank them for all that they do for our village.

Working in cooperation with the village, merchants have placed tables and chairs outside their shops and restaurants for our enjoyment. Please stop by to let the merchants know that you appreciate their efforts.

I urge our residents to become familiar with their local merchants and businesses and to shop in Garden City. You will be pleased with the selection, quality and commitment to customer service.

The recreation department has done another fine job in arranging this season's concert series at the village gazebo, located on the village green at the corner of Stewart and Hilton Avenues. The opening program, scheduled for Thursday, June 27, will feature Libby and Company - cool jazz for a warm summer night.

The programs will begin at 7:15 and admission is free. Please bring your family, lawn chairs or blankets, a picnic dinner and enjoy a very pleasant evening. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall at St. Paul's.
