Legislature Approves New Congressional Lines
The state legislature recently approved a new plan that shrinks New York's congressional districts by two and alters all five of Long Island's congressional boundaries. Similar changes took place months back in the New York State Assembly.
Pastor Meyer Retires From Lutheran Church of the Resurrection
When Pastor Bill Meyer retires June 30 as senior pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Garden City, he will leave an indelible mark on the congregation and community at large, a ministry defined by service to others.
Recreation Department News
The recreation dept. will run a summer tennis camp for children aged 7 years and up and who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. This camp will be held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The sessions will run according to the following age groups: 7 and 8 years, 9 through 11 years and 12 years or older. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend. This instructional program will be conducted in two-hour sessions. Each child may sign up for a maximum of two sessions. The dates, times and fees are as follows:
Local Sports News
On Saturday, August 10, the Garden City Community Fund is hosting a charity wiffle ball tournament. The games will be played at St. Paul's Field starting at 8 a.m. Win or lose, each parent/child team is guaranteed to play at least three games. Lunch and refreshments will be served. Entry fee payable on game day: $25 per adult; $15 per child.
